From
a a
bucket
brigade
in
1841
to
two
fire
stations
and
seven
fire
trucks
today,
the
David
Crockett
Fire
Department
ventures
on.
It
took
32
years
to
move
from
a
hand
pumper
to a
hand
drawn
steam
fire
engine,
and
then
finally
to a
motorized
truck
in
1928.
The
original
steam
pumper
is
still
owned
by
Crockett
and
is
on
display
at
the
old
station
on
Lafayette
St.
The
one
thing
that
has
never
changed
for
Crockett
is
the
individuals
who
put
out
the
fires.
Just
like
in
1841
when
twenty-seven
residents
of
Gretna,
LA
got
together
to
form
an
organized
volunteer
fire
department,
the
firemen
are
there
when
you
need
them.
Funds
from
the
weekly
bingo

with
the
day
to
day
operations
of
David
Crockett
Fire
Dept.
Whether
it's
purchasing
much
needed
equipment
or
financing
the
repair
of
one
of
its
fire
trucks,
Crockett
appreciates
the
financial
help
it
receives
from
the
Gretna
Bingo
Palace
bingo
games.
Bingo
games
for
Crockett
are
held
on
Tuesday
at
3PM
and
on
Saturday
nights
at
8PM.
